Former All-Pro tight end Doug Cosbie has been named Athletic Relations Associate and Head Football Coach at Kamehameha Schools Kapālama, KSK Athletic Director Glennie Adams announced Friday.

Cosbie joins the Warriors with an extensive background in athletics, playing for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League for 10 years under legendary coach Tom Landry, being selected to the Pro Bowl in each season from 1983-85. He played his collegiate ball at Santa Clara University before being drafted by the Cowboys in the third round of the 1979 NFL Draft.

"We are thrilled to have Doug join our staff and are particularly excited for our football program," Adams said. "During the recruitment process, we received an overwhelming amount of support for Doug from former teammates, colleagues and associates. Most impressive was the number of positive testimonials that came to us from former student-athletes that played for him. We are very comfortable in the fact that KS and our student-athletes are getting, first and foremost, a very good person."

After his playing career ended in 1989, Cosbie started an impressive coaching career, beginning with a volunteer position at his alma mater, Santa Clara. He also held positions as an assistant under legendary head coach Bill Walsh at Stanford University, as offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at the University of California, Berkeley, and as athletic director and head football coach at Menlo University. Cosbie also held head football coaching positions at Sacramento High School from 2006-09 and for a semi-professional team in Italy in 2010.

"We're excited about the expertise, experience and coaching skills Doug Cosbie has acquired on the national scene over the last several years and will be bringing to our athletic department," added KS Kapālama High School Po‘o Kumu (Principal) Julian Ako.

Cosbie replaces David Stant, who stepped down from the positions of Athletic Relations Associate and Head Football Coach in February.

"Kamehameha Schools and Hawai‘i are special and unique places with rich histories and I am truly honored and humbled to have the opportunity to lead the Warriors on the football field," said Cosbie. "There were a large number of highly qualified candidates for the position of head football coach at Kamehameha. I am blessed and grateful to have been chosen."
