Hawaii gas prices continue to increase

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Gas prices increased slightly in surveyed areas again over the last week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

The Hawaii state average for regular unleaded is $4.36 per gallon, a penny more than last week, the same price as last month and 18 cents less than on this day last year.

  • Honolulu's average price is $4.26 a gallon for regular unleaded, one cent more since last week, two cents more than last month and down 12 cents from a year ago.
  • In Hilo, the average gas price is $4.38 per gallon, which is one cent more than last week, two cents more than last month and 29 cents less than this time a year ago.
  • Wailuku's average is $4.57 a gallon, four cents more since last week, six cents more than last month and 31 cents less than the price last year.

"As we head into the Memorial Day holiday weekend, gas price averages are up slightly from a week ago, but less than a year ago which benefit local and visitors budgets," according to AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida.
