Residents of a southern Overland Park neighborhood had feared a vicious killer was on the loose after a jogger was found dead, but his death has been ruled a suicide.

Raheel Morani, 24, slashed his own throat with a folding knife, leading to his death, according to an autopsy report released Wednesday to KCTV5. The medical student had been trying to become a medical examiner.

Morani was last seen about 5:30 p.m. April 4 when he went for a jog. He was reported missing three hours later.

A volunteer search body found his body in a field on April 6. Police repeatedly declined to discuss the circumstances of his death, fueling neighbors' fears.

Several weeks later, police said no foul play was involved, but wouldn't go beyond that, citing the family's wish for privacy.

The autopsy report says Morani's ankles and wrists were bound with duct tape and bungee cords. The wrists were bound in front of his torso. The roll of duct tape and discarded duct tape was found at the scene.

"The subject had recently completed a Caribbean medical school, but had failed for the third time step one of the NBME exam. [National Board of Medical Examiners] . A possibly suicidal email message had been sent to a former girlfriend," the autopsy says.

Moran's emotional family pleaded for his safe return when he was first reported missing, but went into seclusion after his body was found.

No drugs or alcohol was in his blood at the time of death, according to the autopsy results.
