LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas Metro police said former Major League slugger Jose Canseco is being investigated as a suspect in a sexual assault case.

Metro made the announcement Wednesday following a series of tweets from a Twitter account belonging to Canseco, outing a woman for accusing him of rape.

Police said no charges have been filed yet in the case and any details of the investigation are being withheld per their policy.

On Wednesday, someone tweeting from the slugger's official Twitter account said police had visited Canseco's home.

"Breaking news this is a first folks las vegas police was just at my house i have been charged with a rape," the tweet said.

In the same tweet, a person, who is identified as a fitness model, is named as the accuser.

In subsequent tweets, the person tweeting from Canseco's account calls on the alleged accuser to take a polygraph test and answer questions from the media.

"Media, ask her if she will take a polygraph. lol," another tweet said.

The tweets also included a picture of the alleged accuser, her name and phone number, but FOX5 has opted not to identify the woman.

Canseco's verified Twitter account currently holds more than 510,000 followers.

FOX5 reached out to Canseco's publicist but has not yet received comment.

Stay tuned to FOX5 for the latest on this developing story.
