HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

An eight-inch main break was affecting 34 customers in Kalihi early Wednesday morning, including Academy of the Pacific, which has announced that school has been cancelled for the day as a result of the water outage.

The break happened at approximately 11:45 p.m. at 919 Alewa Drive in Kalihi, directly fronting the school.

33 homes were reported to be without water as a result of the break, and a water wagon was en route early Wednesday morning to provide water for nearby residents.

All lanes on Alewa Drive between Aulii Street and Twin View Drive are closed and will remain closed for the duration of the repair, which is expected to continue into the afternoon. Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the area and use alternative travel routes until repairs are completed, according to the Honolulu Board of Water Supply.
