Untold story from home with missing women found alive: Pets
19 Action News has found more survivors making it out of a home where three woman and a child were found alive after years as hostages - pets.
The Cleveland Dog Warden is holding a Chihuahua and two dogs that appear to be terrier-poodle mixes.
Cleveland dog warden John Baird says the Chihuahua was found by police in the car with Ariel Castro when he got arrested, and the other two animals were found in his home.
Castro is facing charges for kidnapping three women, keeping them chained and tied up, and sexually abusing them. Hostage Amanda Berry even had a daughter in captivity, and the Ohio Attorney General says DNA proves Castro is the father.
The dogs appeared to be in reasonably good health, though too needed some heavy-duty grooming. They had matted, tangled, overgrown hair.
"One of the dogs has been neutered. Two have been spayed. Two of the dogs have been groomed. We did an amateur job so they're comfortable, and they seem happy," said John Baird.
The dog warden added, the FBI has asked him to hold onto the dogs, at least for now, in case any of the women want any of the animals. They may go to a dog foster home to be cared for by a volunteer so that they're not sitting in cages.
"The animals aren't very shy, so that's usually a sign that they've been cared for at least in some way," said Baird.
