Gas prices increasing in Hawaii

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Local gas prices increased slightly in many areas again over the last week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

Hawaii state average for regular unleaded is $4.35 per gallon, a penny more than last week, three cents less than last month and 18 cents less than on this day last year.

Honolulu's average price is $4.25 a gallon for regular unleaded, unchanged since last week, six cents less than last month and down 14 cents from a year ago.

In Hilo, the average gas price is $4.37 per gallon, which is one cent more than last week, two cents more than last month and 25 cents less than this time a year ago.

Wailuku's average is $4.53 a gallon, two cents more since last week, one cent less than last month and 36 cents less than the price last year.

"Two more states have gas price averages over the $4 a gallon mark: Alaska at $4.07 and California at $4.06," according to AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. "Using the telephone to get information and using mail or online ordering avoids unnecessary trips and saves gasoline. Just watch those shipping charges so you can break even or even come out ahead on fuel costs."
