KAPAA, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -
The Department of Water on Kauai has scheduled a water outage for customers in the Kapa'a - Waipouli area on Thursday, May 16, from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Friday.
The shutdown will allow the department's contractor, Goodfellow Bros., to connect a temporary bypass waterline to the existing system. This project is part of Water Plan 2020, DOW's comprehensive long range plan to replace or repair aging infrastructure, so customers can continue to be provided with safe and affordable water.
During the outage, customers along Kūhi'ō Highway from the Keaka Road intersection to the Inia Street intersection will have no water service. Those along Kipuni Way, Panihi, Akoa, and Akia roads will also have no water service.
When the water main is turned back on after the connection is done, it is possible that air will be mixed with the water. If this happens, the water will appear white or milky in color. The air in the water will dissipate after a while and should not be cause for alarm.
The Department of Water apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks affected customers for their patience and cooperation in preparing for the water outage.
