Fire damages Kailua apartment

KAILUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Honolulu Fire Department officials are investigating the cause of an apartment fire that caused an estimated $65,000 in damage.

It happened at about 7:55 p.m. on Wailepo St. in Kailua Tuesday. The fire reportedly broke out in a second floor unit of an apartment building.

Hawaii News Now is told that two women live there but no one was home at the time of the fire. Fire officials say that the fire appears to have started in or near the kitchen where most of the damage was found.

There was some water damage to the unit downstairs.
