Abercrombie orders state flags at half-staff

HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie is ordering state flags to be flown at half-staff alongside the national flag in recognition of Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Abercrombie says the people of Hawaii join the nation in recognizing state, county and federal law enforcement officers who protect us in our daily lives.

The flags will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday.

President Barack Obama earlier this week proclaimed Wednesday to be Peace Officers Memorial Day. He also declared this week as "Police Week."
