Jurors to resume deliberations in Honolulu rampage

HONOLULU (AP) - Jurors will continue to deliberate in the murder trial against a Wahiawa man accused of going on a shooting rampage that left a mother of 10 dead.

The jury will resume deliberations Wednesday morning. Toby Stangel is charged with murder, attempted murder and other crimes in the 2011 shooting spree that started at an intersection and continued onto the H-1 freeway.

Witnesses during the trial included a daughter of the woman killed and the man and woman shot while driving. Prosecutors say he also shot at two police officers.

Stangel did not testify in his defense. Defense attorney John Schum says Stangel's actions were reckless but the prosecution didn't prove he intended to kill.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Dwight Nadamoto says firing multiple times shows he was trying to kill.
