Molokai woman killed in motorized scooter accident identified

MOLOKAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Maui County officials have identified the woman involved in a fatal accident Thursday afternoon in Kaunakakai.

Authorities say Patricia Bevins died after a van collided into the rear of her motorized scooter on Kamehameha V Highway near Kapaakea Loop.

After a preliminary investigation, police say both were traveling east on within the east-bound lane of the roadway when the crash happened.

The 69-year-old woman was transported to the Molokai General Hospital where she later died.

The driver of the van, a 60-year-old Kaunakakai man, was uninjured in the incident.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash and no arrests have been made.  It is unknown if speed and/or alcohol were involved.
