HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Update as of 12:35 p.m.: NWS has canceled the flood advisory.

Persistent showers along the windward slopes and coasts of Maui have prompted the National Weather Service in Honolulu to extend a Flood Advisory for the area until 12:30 p.m.

According to forecasters, radar showed moderate showers along windward areas, and stream gauges showed elevated water levels in windward Maui streams. Several inches of rain have fallen since last night. The rain expected to continue for several hours, with stream levels remaining high.

Areas in the advisory include Windward East Maui from Kipahulu to Hana and Haiku, along with Windward West Maui from Wailuku to Napili.

Persons in those areas should stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. The rain will also cause hazardous driving conditions along the Hana Highway due to reduced visibility and ponding. Allow extra time for driving.
