HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii Gas is alerting its customers about a scam involving impersonators acting as Hawaii Gas employees in an attempt to solicit money.
The company reports at least one instance where a customer was approached by a "Richard Koizumi" claiming to be an employee in the Kalihi area. The impersonator alerted the customer that Hawaii Gas would be upgrading and exchanging gas meters in their area. The impersonator proceeded to request a $1,000 cash deposit from the customer.
The company would like to remind the public that employees wear an identification badge indicating they are Hawaii Gas employees. Employees also drive vehicles clearly branded with the company logo. Customers are reminded not to provide personal, confidential, or financial information to any unidentified individual, be cautious when responding to phone calls and report any suspicious activity to their respective county police department.
