CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
After Boy Scout leaders in Middle Tennessee announced this week that they won't allow gays to participate, a Montgomery County man has stepped down from his position after serving the organization for decades.
Boy Scout leader Bill Moser has been involved with the organization for more than 50 years.
He said it was a difficult decision, but he feels the Middle Tennessee policy that says openly gay scouts can't participate goes against everything the group teaches.
Moser said he personally believes the purpose of the Scouts is to build a responsible and productive society, according to a report in the Leaf-Chronicle.
He said teaching intolerance is not Boy Scout oath or law.
Representatives for the Middle Tennessee Boy Scouts told the Leaf Chronicle they support the policy, but said if the National Council votes to accept openly gay Scouts they will change their policy.
