Governor begins campaigning on neighbor islands

HILO, Hawaii (AP) - Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie is in the midst of a three-island jaunt to start his campaign for re-election in 2014.

Abercrombie is expected on Kauai on Monday. He made a stop Sunday on the Big Island and visited Maui on Saturday.

During his visit to Hilo on Sunday, West Hawaii Today reports that Abercrombie emphasized the importance of neighbor islands to winning statewide campaigns in Hawaii. The governor used the same strategy of announcing his candidacy when he started his 2010 campaign for governor.

Abercrombie spoke to more than 100 people gathered under tents in a parking lot of Hawaii TechWorks, a recently established new business incubator. His re-election campaign announcement was attended by local politicians, government appointees, and former and current elected officials.
