The popular music and community celebration known as 'BayFest,' held annually at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base, has been cancelled for 2013, according to a post on the event's Facebook page.
Late Monday afternoon the Marine Corps Base released the following statment "BayFest, a community-wide summer family festival held aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii, is canceled in 2013 due to sequestration and budget constraints.
The festival, held here since 1991, is an island-wide attraction drawing 25,000 attendees to MCB Hawaii over two and a half days to enjoy mainland and local entertainment, carnival rides, fireworks, military static displays and more. BayFest requires significant resources from numerous MCB Hawaii departments and Marine Corps Community Services, all of which are impacted by potential furloughs and fiscal limitations."
Entertainment in past years has included air shows and performances by such music groups as The Black Eyes Peas.
