HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - State lawmakers on Thursday honored a Honolulu Police Officer and four Aiea residents who helped rescue an elderly couple from a burning car.

On February 8, Officer Kerwin Unten and the four residents heard cries for help coming from a parking garage on Koauka loop in Aiea.

The five found a car burning in the building's parking structure. The heroic group sprung into action entering the burning car and pulled the couple out.

The elderly man and his wife, who is bound to a wheelchair, are both doing fine.

The other honorees are Cornelio Nolasco, Lino Nolasco, Asher Murro and Dennis Buenaventura.
