LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The South Point Hotel and Casino is positioning itself to be the bowling destination in southern Nevada and perhaps the entire Southwest.

The casino on Tuesday announced that construction of a $30 million bowling tournament facility will commence in May. The casino has additionally partnered with the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) for a 12-year deal to host annual events.

USBC will host seven championship events at the new facility in the next 12 years, including the USBC Women's Championships and Open Championships. There will be 40 additional tournaments, conventions and short events in the coming years as well.

The new facility will include more than 60 lanes, a tournament registration area, squad room, locker facilities and more.

"South Point already runs a premier bowling center where casual fans, amateurs and professionals from all over the world come to play the game they love," said Michael Gaughan, owner of South Point. "This new bowling tournament facility we're building with USBC will provide an unrivaled destination for bowling enthusiasts and add another dynamic element to attract visitors to South Point and Las Vegas."
