Local Connection: Boston Strong

By: Rick Blangiardi

It has been an unsettling time for those in Boston and across the country and it has shaken our resolve in domestic security in the week since two bombs went off at the finish line of the Boston marathon.

This was the first major attack on U.S. soil since the airplane hijackings of September 11, 2001 and had us reliving old feelings of disbelief and outrage.

We have since learned that two brothers, 26 and 19, from Chechnya planned and carried out the bombings and shot two officers after a massive manhunt that practically shut down the city. One of those two suspects is dead and the other is in custody, seriously wounded.

It should come as no surprise to learn that there are still cells of terrorism that are fomented right here in the U.S. and there are those who would mean to do us harm.

We cannot feel completely safe anymore but the good news is that federal, state and city law enforcement in Boston did excellent work to make sure the make sure that this case was closed in five days. The public also was diligent is giving law enforcement tips that led to the capture of the men.

Let's give praise to those who apprehended the suspects and hope that we don't see any more senseless acts of mass violence in our country.
