HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A shackled female detainee broke away from custody while being taken into a courtroom at the District Court building in downtown Honolulu Thursday.

According to a spokeswoman for the Department of Public Safety, Elloise Ysaol was with five other female detainees who were being moved into courtroom 7C at about 2:25 p.m. They were in a hallway in a secured area between the holding cells and courtrooms when Ysoal bolted into an emergency exit.

Sheriff's deputies immediately secured the building and searched for Ysaol. She was found in a stairwell at the 11th floor at about 3 p.m.

Ysaol was in custody after being arrested overnight in connection with a car break-in. She now faces a charge of attempted escape.
