WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) - A North Carolina couple survived when their car went off the road and plunged 250 feet down an embankment on the island of Maui.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports that the car went off the road Tuesday about a mile above the Haleakala Visitors Center. Maui County firefighters found the couple sitting up on their vehicle, which was on its side.
The woman complained of neck, back and hip pain. She also had cuts to her arms and head. The man said his ribs hurt and he had a cut on his head. Both were rescued by helicopter and then taken by ambulance to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
