HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A team of students from Moanalua High School has made it to the semi-finals of a national art contest. The team is one of only 50 groups to be selected out of more than 1,400 entries in the annual Vans Custom Culture contest.
It's a competition for schools to earn $50,000 for their art programs. Each school that competes is tasked with designing four pairs of blank Vans shoes in four themes: art, music, action sports and local flavor. Sneakers designed by the winning school will also be produced and sold in Vans' stores.
The winners will be selected through an online vote, which ends May 13. The top five finalists will be flown to New York City where the overall winner will be announced.
