Men run marathon course in honor of Boston victims

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Minutes after a moment of silence was observed on Monday in memory of those injured or killed during the Boston Marathon bombings last week, two Hawaii men embarked on a 26.2 mile journey that allowed them to commemorate the victims in their own unique way.

Friends Odeelo Dayondon and Felipe Rael, in-training for the Ironman Cairns in June, ran the entire course of the Honolulu Marathon on Monday to honor those affected by the two bombings near the finish line on Boylston Street, which killed three and injured nearly 300others.

"I personally want to do it because I feel a sense of responsibility as a runner, an aspiring Boston Marathon runner, no less, to honor the lives lost and the many affected by the event," said Dayondon.

The pair say they ran the race at their "long run recovery pace" and finished the course in about 4 hours and 30 minutes.

Dayondon says that he will attempt to qualify for the Boston Marathon at this year's Honolulu Marathon in December.
