The pests that bug you the most are out in full force and what's around your house may be making it worse.
Culprit number one, the woodpile.
"When it rains and it comes inside here, water builds up at the very bottom and it takes a very small amount of water for mosquito populations to start," said Nick Castaldo, president of the Central Virginia Pest Management Association.
He suggests moving the woodpile away from the house and covering it.
Another popular breeding ground is children's toys.
"Trucks, water builds up inside the wheels, trampolines, water builds up under the tarp," he explains.
Flipping them over when they're not being used will help. Flower pots and dirty gutters are prime spots for mosquito breeding. And then there are fleas and ticks. They ride on rodents that like to travel through high ground cover.
"If you do want to keep the natural look, you keep a low-cut, manicured lawn on the side away from the high side and you'll know that's where foot traffic wants to stay away from," adds Castaldo.
