DLNR reopens Kalalau trail on Kauai

KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Department of Land and Natural Resources' State Park division have reopened the Kalalau trail Sunday based on weather forecasts and have removed the "TRAIL CLOSED" signs at the trailhead.

Officials closed the trail on Friday and Saturday as a precautionary action for public safety in anticipation of severe thunderstorm and flash flood watch conditions forecast for Kauai.

Flash flooding conditions endanger hikers who may find themselves on the far side of flooded streams. Officials remind the public to keep to high ground and wait for the stream to subside instead of trying to cross it.
