HECO contractor rescued after falling from Ko'olau work site

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A contractor working for the Hawaiian Electric Company was rescued with the help of a helicopter on Tuesday morning after he apparently slid several hundred feet from a work site in the Koolau mountain range.

The incident was first reported at just after 10:00 a.m., according to the Honolulu Fire Department.

A HECO representative confirmed to Hawaii News Now that a contractor at a work site in the mountains above Temple Valley slipped and fell, though was unable to confirm exactly how far the worker fell. A spokesperson for the Honolulu Fire Department said that the man slid around 200 feet down the mountain.

The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries, but had to be stabilized before being airlifted from the scene because the accident happened on a steep ridge.

The man was reportedly working on support structures that carry the transmission lines that carry power over the mountains.
