Warning downgraded to advisory, but surf still high on north, west shores

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A High Surf Advisory is in effect for the north and west-facing shores of Kauai, Niihau, Oahu and Molokai, as well as the north-facing shores of Maui, until 6 p.m.

The advisory replaces the high surf warning that was posted earlier.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service expected surf of 14 to 18 foot face heights for north shores, with the west shores of Oahu and Molokai seeing waves in the 10-14 foot range.

Beach goers can expect strong breaking waves and shore breaks, along with strong long shore and rip currents that will make swimming difficult and dangerous. Swimmers should exercise caution and heed all warnings from ocean safety officials.
