WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The new exhibit featuring the lion cubs opens Saturday at the Honolulu Zoo.

Mayor Kirk Caldwell will officially debut the cubs and announce the winners of a Haiku contest to give the cubs their names.

The young lions are three and a half months old.  They were born to the zoo's lioness, Moxy, on Dec. 15.  The four-year-old lioness was obtained through a breeding loan with New York's Bronx Zoo in November 2010, coordinated through Species Survival Program (SSP) guidelines.

Her mate, Ekundu, or "Red" in Swahili, arrived in Honolulu on July 1, 2010 from the San Diego Wildlife Park. Ekundu is five years old and also part of a breeding loan program governed by SSP.
