EAST HONOLULU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The City Parks and Recreation Department re-opened the beach at Hanauma Bay Saturday morning.

Officials closed the beach Friday morning due to an influx of box jellyfish.

Ocean Safety officials say the lower beach area was closed shortly after 11 a.m. following confirmed reports of more than 35 swimmers with box jellyfish stings. Twenty-five people were stung between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

We're told it's been at least a year since the bay has had to close because of box jellyfish
