Man seriously injured during drive-by shooting in Ewa Beach

Ewa Beach Drive-By Shooting - 4:30 a.m. Update

EWA BEACH, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu Police Department officials have opened an attempted murder investigation after an 18-year-old man was the victim of an apparent drive-by shooting in Ewa Beach on Monday night.

Police say the victim was standing on the sidewalk along Fort Weaver Road near Parrish Drive at around 8:15 p.m. when an unidentified male pulled up in his car and fired upon him before driving away. Witnesses at the scene say the victim was shot in the foot.

Family members at the scene of the shooting early Tuesday morning identified the victim as 18-year-old Sky Brede and say that he lived across the street from the scene of the shooting.

Paramedics transported Brede to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition, where he was treated and released, according to police.

A man who identified himself as the victim's cousin spoke with Hawaii News Now in the aftermath of the shooting, saying he heard the gunshots from inside the house.

"We was all in the living room of the house and all I heard is two shots, and we all look outside and then we see one car pull out and then we just find my cousin got shot," said Michael Mareko. "All I know is my cousin got shot on his foot."

Mareko also believes he and the victim's family know who the suspected shooter is and have shared that information with police.

"Everybody is family over here. Our family gets shot we're all up at the scene, faster than the cops can get there," said Mareko.

Police say they initially opened the case as an attempted murder investigation but are also following up on contradictory information and may reclassify the incident. Police have not yet arrested a suspect.

We will have more information on this developing story as soon as it becomes available.
