Hawaii Island firefighters put down blaze in Pepeekeo

PEPEEKEO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii county fire crews quickly extinguished a house fire in Pepeekeo Saturday morning.

Crews responded to a home on Kulaimano Road around 8:10 a.m. and had the blaze under control about 20 minutes later.

Officials say the fire was confined to two back bedrooms of the house, but all occupants escaped before firefighters arrived.

The scene has been turned over to investigators, however, HFD says a candle appears to be the initial cause.

Damage is estimated at $84,000.
