Local Connection: Our War Heroes

By: Rick Blangiardi

Do yourself a favor and please visit a special Congressional Gold Medal Exhibit at Bishop Museum which will run over the next few weeks.

The exhibit and accompanying panel discussions will be held through April 14 in the Castle Memorial Building.

You will be riveted hearing about the heroics of those who served in the 100th Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the Military Intelligence Service.

Through these brave men, we better understand the history of World War II from the attack on Pearl Harbor to the ultimate victory on European battlefields.

The exhibit, developed by the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History with assistance from the National Veterans Network, began its national tour in New Orleans .

After Honolulu, it will travel to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Chicago and Houston into early 2014. This is a rare chance to see something truly special.

Hawaii News Now is proud to present a 90-minute special entitled "A Tradition of Honor" which tells the story of the Japanese-American Soldiers of World War II. It is narrated by Guy Hagi and will appear on KGMB 2 times, once on Thursday, March 21 and the following Thursday, March 28 between 8:30 and 10 pm.

This is just our small way of thanking these soldiers who sacrificed everything for so many.
