Rainbows Drop Conference Opener

HONOLULU – It wasn't the wet, rainy weather that cooled off the Rainbows Thursday night, but the UC Santa Barbara hitters.  The Gauchos got their leadoff man aboard in seven of nine innings, generating just enough offense to win 7-6.

UCSB played from in front the entire game, taking a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning, and maintaining it throughout.  The Rainbows were able to knot the game at 5-5 in the 7th, but UCSB came through with a pair of runs in the 9th.

Trevor Podratz and Marc Flores starred for UH.  Podratz went 2-4 with 4 RBI's, while Flores was 2-5 with 2 RBI's.  They combined to drive in all of the Rainbows runs.

Starting pitcher Connor Little lasted 5 innings, leaving the game after taking a line drive off his right knee in the 5th.  He lay on the field, writhing in pain for a couple of minutes after the play, but was able to finish the inning.

The Rainbows are now 5-17 overall, 0-1 in Big West play.  The two teams will play three more games in the series.
