Bail set at $260,000 for man accused in Maui attack

WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) - A $260,000 bail has been set for a 39-year-old Kihei man arrested in the robbery and assault of a man by four men outside his West Maui apartment.

The Maui News ( says Brok Carlton is charged with robbery, assault, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and kidnapping in connection with the Thursday night assault.

Police say the victim was beaten and forced to the ground, where attempts were made to tie his hands and feet with zip-ties.

Police say gasoline was thrown on the victim in attempts to set him on fire before the assailants fled as residents began coming out of apartments to see what was occurring.

Carlton was arrested Friday after investigators spoke with the victim. A Pukalani man also was arrested when he turned himself Sunday.
