HANALEI, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Severe weather moving through the western part of the state has prompted the closure of Hanalei Elementary School on Kauai today, one of several closures and advisories that began to take effect at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
Heavy rains on Tuesday have also caused dangerous road conditions and the closure of Hanalei Bridge, according to Kauai County Officials.
All other public schools on Kauai will be open.
The school bus transportation service from Haena to Hanalei will not be operating on Wednesday due to the bridge closure and road conditions. This will affect students who reside in Hanalei to Haena and attend Kapaa Middle and Kapaa High Schools.
The Department of Education is in close contact with county and state civil defense and continues to closely monitor the weather situation. Parents and guardians are encouraged to listen to reports regarding weather conditions.
Teachers and staff who are unable to report to work due to the bridge closure are asked to contact their supervisor.
