Mo-ped crash sends man to hospital in critical condition
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
An 18-year-old man was critically injured when his mo-ped crashed into a vehicle in Makiki early Saturday morning.
He has been identified as Nikolai G. Bulanow.
According to Honolulu Police, the collision happened at 2:40 a.m. at the intersection of Nehoa and Ualakaa Streets. Investigators said the mo-ped was traveling westbound on Nehoa when a vehicle turning left from Ualakaa onto Nehoa crossed into the path of the mo-ped, which hit the rear of the vehicle.
Bulanow was not wearing a helmet, police said. It's unknown if speed was a factor in the crash, but investigators said alcohol was involved. The driver of the vehicle was unhurt.
Police originally closed Neoha Street in both directions between Poki and Makiki Streets. They reopened the road by 4:30 p.m.
