HONOLULU (AP) - The House committee on economic development is debating a resolution urging the state to study the potential social and economic effects of gambling in Hawaii.

Hawaii is the only U.S. state besides Utah where gambling is illegal.

The issue is 1 of several resolutions that House lawmakers are discussing on Friday.

The committee is also planning to hear a resolution about researching the feasibility of "creating a world-class commercial space launch and control facility in Hawaii."

The Senate Committee on Education is considering a resolution asking the Board of Education to develop a sexuality education program.

A resolution to establish a Mandarin language program in Hawaii high schools is also on the agenda.

Lawmakers are also considering a resolution to expand the Jump Start program to Maui and Hawaii.
