Waikiki hotel holds fundraiser for Visitor Industry Charity Walk

WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Waikiki hotel will hold a fundraiser for the state's tourism industry. Halekulani's upscale, formal image will pair up with casual flip flops for footwear at an event it's calling "Chefs & Slippahs." Everyone – from the chefs to the guests – are asked to wear cocktail attire with slippers that night.

The $95 per person event during the dinner hour will offer five grazing stations headed by Oahu's biggest celebrity chefs: Alan Wong of Alan Wong's Restaurant, Roy Yamaguchi of Roy's Restaurants, Hiroshi Fukui of Hiroshi Eurasion Tapas, Robin Lee of Nobu Waikiki, and Vikram Garg of Halekulani. Cocktails from Southern Wine & Spirits will also be served.

There'll be a silent auction for attendees to bid on exclusive Halekulani experiences, as well as the hotel's logo slippers for sale at the door, for those who need new flip flops. The proceeds of the Halekulani slipper sales will also be donated to charity. You'll want to make sure you come in your slippers; there'll be a prize awarded for "Best Slippah"!

All this is to raise money for the Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association's annual Charity Walk, which is always themed "Put Your Best Slippah Forward." A statewide event that occurs on Oahu, Hawaii Island, Kauai, Lanai, Maui and Molokai throughout May, Charity Walk has raised over $24.7 million and helped hundreds of local charities throughout the State since its inception in 1978. Last year alone, the walk raised more than $1.4 million for local charities.
