Hawaii Five-0 honored at Honolulu Community Police Foundation fundraiser

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu Police Community Foundation honored the cast and crew of Hawaii Five-0 during its annual fundraiser on Sunday, saying it was grateful for the exposure HPD gets from the CBS reboot of the show, as well as the original one.

HPD, which works with Hawaii Five-0 when filming on location, said it hoped to raise at least $100,000 during the dinner.

"We work with real police officers almost every day," said Daniel Dae Kim, who portrays Chin Ho Kelly on the show. "Every time we have a crime scene, it's nice to know that they're with us. They're the ones doing the real work, we're the ones doing it for pretend.

The money HPCF takes in during the event is used in several different ways.

"The monies that we raise tonight will be used for scholarships for those college-bound, and we also buy equipment for our officers to enhance their safety out in the field," said former police chief Lee Donohue.

A new priority this year for HPCF will be to provide medical alert devices for seniors who are at risk of falling in the homes.
