A man in his twenties who was involved in car accident on Nimitz Highway beneath the airport viaduct early Monday morning has died, according to police.
The incident reportedly happened at just after 4:00 a.m., when a two-door Chevrolet sedan that was traveling southbound on Valkenburgh towards Nimitz collided with a black Jeep that was headed west on Nimitz towards the H-1 on-ramp, according to police.
Police say the Jeep hit the sedan on the driver's side, and believe one of the drivers may have went through a red light.
After being hit, the sedan reportedly spun out of control, ejecting the driver. When police arrived at the scene, they found the driver of the sedan lying next to one of the pillars that support the viaduct.
Paramedics transported the man to an area hospital in extremely critical condition, where he later died.
The driver of the Jeep is in the military and was apparently on his way to the gym, police say.
It is unknown at this point whether alcohol was involved in the crash.
