ANAHEIM, CA – The Rainbow Warriors basketball team played an
admirable second half against UC Irvine in the quarterfinals of the Big West
tournament. If only the first half was
the same.
UH came out slow, while the Anteaters were on fire, dooming
Gib Arnold's club to a first round exit, 71-60.
With UCI leading 7-5 in the first half, the ‘Bows suddenly
went cold. The Anteaters responded with
a 17-0 run, taking control of the game.
By the half, the score was 44-22.
UH cut the deficit in half with a second half opening 11-0
run, but it wasn't enough.
Vander Joaquim scored 18 points and grabbed 6 points. Fellow senior Hauns Brereton also scored 18,
with 9 rebounds. Christian
Standhardinger was the only other player in double digits for the ‘Bows, with
11 points.
UH finishes the season 17-14.
