HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii prisons officials say a 32-year-old inmate serving a 20-year attempted murder sentence has died at Halawa Correctional Facility.
Spokeswoman Toni Schwartz for the Hawaii Department of Public Safety said Tuesday the man died in his cell on Monday.
Schwartz initially declined to release the man's identity, saying police were still in the process of notifying his next of kin.
Schwartz says the man was being held alone in a special holding unit in the facility.
The death was ruled a suicide.
