Cavalier Arena was rocking Friday night as the Darton Lady Cavs blew out Denmark Tech for the District J championship 75-55 to finish its home schedule undefeated. The game began with a bit of a back and forth before the Lady Cavs went on a run to take a 41-24 halftime lead.
Darton then out scored the Region 10 champs 34-31 in the second half on its way to the 20 point victory. Region 17 player of the year Michelle Mitchell turned in another excellent performance and led all scorers with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Kadayasha Jones was a monster on the boards with 17 rebounds to go along with her 9 points.
Darton is back in the national tournament for the first time in over a decade.
"It feels good. It really feels good. We have turned Darton out so it feels good." Said Jones
Darton head coach Lea Henry added "A great season for us but we had this one last hurdle to get over and I thought we played really tough tonight. We just made things happen."
The national tournament begins March 18 on Salina, Kansas.
