HONOLULU, HI - (Chaminade Athletics) Chaminade guard DeAndre Haskins was named
the Pac West Player of the Year today, in a vote tallied from coaches across
the league. Fellow Swords Bennie Murray (Fairfield, Calif./Will C. Wood) was
named to the second team, while Lee Bailey (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Country Day)
received third team honors.
The Long Beach, Calif. native out of Jordan High School
finished the regular season second in the league in scoring (19.1 points per
game) and fifth in rebounds (7.4 rpg). He was also second in free throw
percentage at 84 percent, was sixth in steals at 1.6 per game. His career high
32 points earlier this season sparked an upset over Division I Texas in the EA
Sports Maui Invitational.
Murray finished fifth in the Pac West in scoring at 17.1
points per game and was eighth in 3-pointers made per game at 2.2.
Bailey, last year's conference Freshman of the Year, was
third on the team in scoring at a 10.8 ppg clip. He also averaged 3.4 assists
per game. He was also 80.2 percent from the free throw line, ninth-best in the
conference.
