It appears Hawaii's teachers and Department of Education (DOE) will soon be heading back to the bargaining table.
Hawaii State Department of Education and the Hawaii State Teachers Association released this joint statement on Wednesday.
"On Monday the DOE received a written request from the Hawaii State Teachers Association (HSTA) to engage in mediation to assist the parties in reaching an agreement regarding the teachers' contract. The DOE, together with the Governor and Hawaii State Board of Education representatives, agreed and responded affirmatively to HSTA."
The next step is for the Hawaii Labor Relations Board (HLRB) to approve the mediation, as required by law. The parties have requested approval from HLRB.
