Coast Guard, Fire officials search waters off Oahu after flares spotted

The U.S. Coast Guard and Honolulu Fire Department were scheduled to resume a search off of east Oahu near Kailua at first light after several flares were fired into the air at about 10 p.m. Monday night.

Crews used a helicopter and boat to search the area off of Kailua beach for about an hour and a half after five orange flares were spotted.

No one had been reported missing at that time, and the search did not yield any results overnight.
