HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A three-year-old Salt Lake boy was wounded early Saturday when he was apparently shot by his father, who was cleaning a rifle.
According to emergency officials, the incident happened at 12:11 a.m. at 2920 Ala Ilima. Authorities said the boy was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Police said the 40-year-old man was cleaning his rifle in his living room when the rifle accidentally discharged. The round struck the ceiling and caused a piece of metal shrapnel to strike his young son.
Officers were notified and the man was subsequently arrested for reckless endangering in the first degree. He was released pending further investigation.
