Hawaii arrivals by air are up
10.1 percent so far this month, compared to the same days last year, based on
state visitor counts.
February arrivals, extrapolating actual counts through
Wednesday morning, should reach 500,000 before Thursday afternoon, according to
counts posted by the Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development &
Tourism. The running tally is ahead of last year by more than 43,000.
January saw 724,118 arrivals by air, up 5 percent from
the same month last year, an increase of 34,000 arrivals. The preliminary
arrivals including both visitors and returning locals, with the latter group
usually accounting for about 13 percent of the total.
So far this month, mainland traffic is up 4.7 percent to
Maui, 6.7 percent to Honolulu, 8.2 percent to the Big Island, and 13.7 percent
to Kauai.
Arrivals from Japan are up 15.7 percent.
