Regents to look at UH sabbatical policy

Posted: Updated:

HONOLULU (AP) - The Board of Regents will be meeting this week and taking a look at executive sabbaticals at the University of Hawaii.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser (http://is.gd/ff0YNZ) says the board will look at a proposal that would require that UH executives who take sabbaticals make clear how the paid time away will benefit the institution.

Executive pay while on sabbatical and upon return also will be considered at Thursday's meeting. The new policy also would require people who receive sabbaticals to return to the university for at least the same amount of time they spent on leave.

The Regents are looking at the changes in response to public criticism of large salaries some UH executives have received while on sabbatical.
